Exam preparation for lifeguard

If you want to become a lifeguard, you need to pass the following exams. Naturally, you need to speak the language of the respective canton fluently, and having knowledge of English is an additional advantage.

1. BLS-AED (Training in first aid)

2. Brevet igba Pro

3. If you work by a lake or river: BLS-AED, Brevet igba Pro + Modul lake

The exams need to be retaken every 2 years.

Requirements for the Brevet IGBA Pro exam:

  • 500 m swimming. Time limit: 13 minutes.
  • 5m diving
  • Rescuing a person from the water (minimum depth of 1.8m)
  • 25m towing. Time limit: 2 minutes.
  • Diving for an object: Retrieving 5 rings from a water depth of at least 1.8m.
